FARMERS’ UNION.

POVERTY BAY SUB-PROVINCIAL DISTRICT.

The executive of the Poverty Bay Sub-Provincial District of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union met on Saturday afternoon; present: Mr C. H. Bridge (chairman), the Pev. E. Ward and Messrs W. McLean, A. McAlian, 11. Henson, and C. Hardy. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: President, Mr C. H. Bridge; vice-presidents, Messrs C. G. Holdsworth and W. McLean; treasurer. Mr G. J. Black; delegate, Mr J. C. Field; auditor, Mr H. E. Dodd. The chairman stated that a deadlock had been reached with the dispute between tlie Shearers’ Union and the Sheepfarmers’ Association. Neither side would give way. 4m d the dispute was being referred to the Arbitration Court. Farmers were anxious to see something done, as the shearing season was approaching. Mi' Bridge went on to refer to the progress of the Union ill the Poverty Bay district. During the past year the membership had increased from 458 to 531. As the work of the secretary and organiser was increasing, in consequence of the progress of the local branch, and in order to enable him to get round the district and carry on his organising work among the farmers, the speaker would give notice that he would move at the next meeting. “That a motor car be purchased for the use of the secretary and organiser.” In reference to urgent matters, the chairman said he would like to see a sub-committee appointed who could take the necessary and immediate action. , The suggestion was approved, and Messrs W.
