another. DRAFT 'ARRIVES' IN - •GISBORNE.
After a rough trip from Napier, tne Araliura arrived in the Bay yesterday morning with a draft of 39 returned soldiers ex the Briton. When _t<io Luatea reached the wharf, just after noon, the men received a hearty welcome' from the crowd which had assembled, in spite of the rain, had three hearty cheers were given. As usual the Salvation Army. Band was present to add to the cordiality of the welcome aha rendered appropriate music. Among those present were the Mayor and Mr. H. De Costa, representing the Citizen’ Defence Committee, and Mr A. H. Lange, representing the R.S.A. Cars were supplied by Messrs A. Zachariafi, T. ITaisman, Gordon, Spence'and Sir James Carroll, and the men were soon conveyed to their homes. The official list of the returning men contained the following names: Rfm.JW. Barton, Gisborne; Rfm. R. TRANSPORTS ON THE WATER. The local branch of the Defence Office has received advice that several troopships arc expected to arrive in Dominion ports within the next few weeks. The list is as follows: — The Chrispia with 732 troops on board left Colombo *on July 4, and is due at Lyttelton about July 25. Ruapehu, with 402 troops, 200 women and 63 children, via Panama, due at Wellington July 26. Giessen, with 1106 troops and six women, due at Wellington about August 16. . , Matatua, with 682 troops via Panama, due at Wellington about AugTTlimaroa, with 1092 troops, due at Auckland first week in August. Somerset with 967 troops, via Panama, due at Lyttelton about August with 1055 troops, via Panama due at Auckland about August 1 9 TWt Hilt-kins, ivit’ll 535 troops vm Panama due "U •>»»* August 14.
