A huge meeting at the Town Hail passed a resolution calling on the authorities to release Freeman, and asked all connected with the sailing of the Sonoma to refuse duty until this was effected.
A crowd of several thousands marched from the Trades Hall to the wharf, demanding the release.. They raided several shooting galleries en route, seizing rifles, hut after announcement that Freeman wa s being taken ashore, the crowd dispersed. Four people were injured during a fight with the police. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received Juno 4, 11.25 p.m., SYDNEY. June 4. A big crowd watched the removal of Freeman from the Sonoma to the Garrison Hospital at Victoria Barracks, pending the decision of the Minister for Defence. Freeman broke his self-imposed fast last evening when infofitned that he was to be removed, but he is very weak after several foodless days. He had to be carried out on a stretcher. The wharf laborers resumed loading the Sonoma when Freeman’s removal was assured. SYDNEY. June 4. The Minister for Defence promised the Hon. F. Tudor and other Labor leaders Cabinet consideration of the request for a free trial for Freeman.
