GRAND VOCAL RECITAL.

MISS ADELAIDE BRUCE AT HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE.

Music-lovers- in Gisborne will have an exceptional treat in hearing Miss Adelaide Bruce at His Majesty’s Theatre on Friday next. Miss Bruce is a most versatile artist, and! as an oratoria singer she is in the front rank, and as an exponent of the old folk songs she is unsurpassed. A South Australian paper speaks thus: “A contralto voice, sweet, refined and wondrously sympathetic—one of those voices which give a new meaning to songs that we may have heard often before, but not with the same outpouring of feeling.” The Auckland Star says: ‘The contralto arias were intellingently and expressively delivered by Miss- Adelaide Bruce. A tender and expressive performance was given of “He Shall Feed 1 His Flock.” In “0, Thou That Tellest,” the soloist revealed a flexible voice, good legato, and fine sense of rhythm, whie an expressive and impressive rendering was secured of the pathetic aria “He Was Despised.” On Friday night, Miss Bruce will cater for all tastes, her numbers including such popular Irish and Scottish songs as “Killarney,” ' “Believe Me if All Those Endearing Young Charms,” “Ireland Still,’’ “The March of the Cameron Men,” “Land o’ the Leal,’’ and “The Laird o’. Cockpen.” _ /duller particulars will appear in next issue.
