ENTENTE ULTIAIATUM TO GERMANY.
ARMISTICE BROKEN OFF IF HUNS OPPOSE LANDING. HUN NEWSPAPERS URGE - . RESISTANCES Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received March 29,. 5.5 p.m.) COPENHAGEN, March 29. There is excitement at Weimar at the report that the Entente has delivered an ultimatum to Germany that the armistice will be broken off if Germany opposes the Poles landng at Dantzig. BERLIN, Alarch 29. The Lokal Anzieger reports that suspension of the armistice by the Allies is possible. * PARIS, March 29. The Allied Command at Spa demanded q landing for the Polish troops at~Dantzig, stating that a refusal would be regarded as a breach of the armistice. (Received March 30, 12.10 a.m.) LONDON, March 30.
The Daily Chronicle’s Berlin correspondent stages that all parties support the Government’s attitude regarding Dantzig. The Deutches Zeitung urges the Government to stand firmi and describes the reply to the Entente as the first firm act of the weak Government. The Tageblatt says that the Poles cannot he iregarded as Allies of the Entente. They are not one of the Powers with which Germany concluded the armistice. The Entente have experienced surprise in Hungary and must surely see that Germans will not subscribe to a peace that will condemn them to an indeterminable period of slavery and deny them the right of self-determination as well as reducing them to treatment as cattle. , , ~ The Vorvvaerts says that the Entente apparently wishes to satisfy the Poles’ aspirations by securing Dantzig, and ths regardless of thesultless dangers in the East. The’ Entente’s threats of a termination of the armistice are scarcely conceivable.
HUNS STRENGTHENING DEFENCES.
SCHEAIE OF SETTLEAIENT SUGGESTED!!
iustralian and N.Z. Cablo Association. (Received Alarch 28, 2,40 p.m) COPENHAGEN. Alarch 28. The German National Assembly has been asked to allow the landing of Polish troops at Dantzig. (Received March 29, 5.5 p.m.) The Germans are sending more troops to Dantzig and are also strengthening the coastal defences. PARTS. March 28. It is understood that Air. LloydGeorge and President Wilson are in agreement in connection with the diminished “corridor” near Dantzig. It is believed that the construction of a new rail wav through the area peopled principally by the Poles, where few Germans are located, would largely overcome the German oh j ections.
