THE PICTURE SHOWS.

THE PALACE

TYRONE POWER IN “A MODERN LORELEI.”

Commencing at the matinee, the management of the Palace will submit one of the strongest and most up-to-date programmes yet shown. “A Modern Lorelei,” a new Metro production, w'ill occupy pride of place. This picture, which is said to" be of a distinctly superior type, has all the delicate imagery and romance so dear to the heart of woman. The story is a sweet, pretty romance, done exquisitely and artistically. The stars are Tyrone Power, one of the world’s greatest actors, and Frances Burham, one of photoplay’s youngest stars, delightfully sweet and piquant in her characterisation of Lorelei; also California’s famous beauty and perfect Venus. Mabel Jones. “A Modern Lorelei” is a genuine novelty, showing the myriad bird and animal life of the sea and its lonely islands, together with a gripping story of love and adventure. In one part is a diving chorus and swimming ballet ot 250 people —one of the most beautiful scenes ever put on the screen. The following extract is from the Moving Picture World: “It is in the visualisation of the girl’s dreams and imaginings that we see Lorelei at play hi scenes of rare beauty amid the nymphs of the waves'. Although there, are nude figures in th e picture, they are at all times far enough away from the camera to make us see them only in their beauty. The scenes showing the nymphs are art in every sense of the word and incapable of giving offence to even the.most prudish. There is absolutely ngthing -unwholesome in the picture.’’ The types of fisherfolk art well selected and the. beauty of face and figure as revealed by the water nymphs is perfect. The supporting films include the Co-op.pra-tive Weekly Gazette, “The Stag s Biography” (Ditmar’s educational), and “Stepping Out,” a go-as-you-pleaes uproarious comedy by the Christie comedians. Special extra films will he shown at to-day’s matinee for the benefit of the little one. Box plans at Miller’s Corner.
