CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 18. Albert Mateland McLaehlan, found guilty by court-martial of disobeying the command of -his superior officer, to appear for medical examination at Timaru, was sentenced to. two years-’ hard laDor. Accused paraded at the ballot, but the .evidence showed that in his efforts to evade the police he gave a false name, and produced another man's C‘2 certificate.

A CHARGE OF FORGERY

THAMES. Jan. 13

A youth about 18, named Charles Sherman, pleaded guilty at the Court this morning to a charge of forgery, and was committed. to the Auckland Supreme Court for sentence. The evidence showed that accused passed a forged cheque for £lO in payment of jewellery, which later he pawned. The next day he attempted to pass a cheque for £l2 unsuccessfully. The signature, that of a well-known farmer, was not even an attempt at imitation, and was . rejected l).y the hank.
