In tlie House of Lords ai-tent.oti was drawn to the official reports or Germany’s treatment of prisoners. Lord Newton said the Government, recognised that the prisoners mad been treated with incredible brutality. He bad been anxious to avoid reprisals, but realised they should take advantage of the changed military situation in order to improve the prisoners’ treatment. A list of offenders had been kept, and he believed that punishment could be exacted after the war. The Primate said he had been against reprisals, but in view oi the official reports he was disposed.. to leave the Government the fullest freedom of action.
