Hewland moved “That the Synod adopt the platform of the Labor Party demanding a referendum on the liquor question on four points. (1). National .Continuance; (2) immediate national prohibition .with compensation; (3) immediate national prohibition without compensation and (4) national ownership; those issues to be decided by preferential voting with, a single transferable vote.” . , The Rev. H. H. Mathias moved: “That the National Efficiency Board’s recommendation be adopted by the Synod. Both motions, were taken In the, discussion which followed, opinion leaned towards the Efficiency Board’s recommendation, hut the debate was not concluded when the Synod adjourned. , Bishop Julius said he wanted prohibition with or without -compensation. If the country was- ready to give compensation be kvould prefer it. _
