A SAD FATALITY.

OLD VETERAN KILLED BY -MOTOR CAE.

(Press Association Telegram ; HAWERA, July 25. * A sad fatality occurred last evening on the main South road, about three quarters of a mile from the town. Thomas Morgan, aged 73, an old and respected resident, was returning about six o’clock from milkmg his cows, and was wheeling the milk in a hand-cart. He was accompanied by a young; nephew, who was walking ahead. The lad heard a crash, and, looking round, saw a motor ear zig-zagging across the road. The car had run over Morgan, who had received terrible injuries, both legs being broken, and there being a gash on the head. He died a few minutes afterwards. Deceased leaves a widow and grown-up family. He was a well-known veteran, and was present at the recent Turu-turu-Mokai celebrations.

Later. —A s a sequel to the South road fatality resulting in the death of Thomas Morgan last night, James O’Donnell, farmer, of Inah, was charged at the Magi: irate’s Court late this afternoon that on July 24. he unlawfully killed one. Thomas Morgan. Senior-Sergeant Till asked for a remand to enable the police to collect evidence. . In reply to a question by the Magistrate, the Senior Sergeant said accused had surrendered himself to the police and made a voluntary statement. A remand was granted till Monday, hail being allowed in two sureties of £SO each or one surety of -£IOO-
