NEW REGULATIONS IN OPERATION.

; Regulations in regard to the im- ! portation and retail ])riee of petrol J are set out in a Gazette Extraordiu- ; ary of Friday of last week.

The maximum retail price of petrol at the various ports show that at Gisborne the price is, for Class A, 29s per case of not less than eight gallons; 14s 6d per tin of not less than four gallons and 3s 9d; per gallon for any lesser quantity. The maximum retail prices for Class B is 24s a case, 12s a tin and 3s 3d a gallon. The same prices operate in Wanganui, and 'New Plymouth. Petrol is cheaper at Auckland, jWcllington, Christchurch and Dunedin, where the retail prices are as follows: —Class A, 27s 6d per ease, 13s 9d per tin and 3s 6d per gallon. Class Bis 22s 6d, 11s 3d, and 3s. At Napier and Timaru the prices are. Class A 28s, 14s, and; 3s 7d. Class B, 235, 11s 6d, and 3s Id, whilst at Invercargill the following prices prevail. Class A. 29s 6d 14s 9d, and 3s 9d. Class B 24 s Cd, 12s 3d, and 3s 3d.

At any other places than the ports mentioned the maximum retail price of petrol is the price fixed for the port from which the. seller customarily obtains his supply, or, where there is no such customarily port, then the price is that ■ operating in the nearest port. In each case in addition to the maximum price is the equivalent to the actual cost of transportation from the port to the place of sale. The limitations in regard, to importation stipulate that a license must be obtained and that the license must limit the consumer to a quantity of petrol not exceeding four weeks’ supply. Should the licensee have reasonable grounds to suspect that the consumer already has in his possession a greater quantity than that specified he is bound to refuse to supply the consumer with any further petrol during such period as would reasonably suffice to reduce his stock to'the quantity prescribed.
