HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE.
The appearance to-night at His Majesty’s Theatre of the famous William Fox production, -“A Daughter of the Gods,” is being looked forward to with extraordinary interest by picture-goers, and there is every indioation that the building will be packed in every department. The film is one of extraordinary beauty and is filled with most remarkable scenes, while the story which it has to tell is one of rare beauty and charm. It has all the appeal of a fairy tale, but at the same time is as full of sensations as any melodrama and the excitement is kept at a tense pitch throughout. Miss Annette Kellerxnan, the famous lady swimmer of Australia, makes her appearance in the principal role of Anitia and scores a triumph which is quite extraordinary. In her previous films Miss Kellerman’s principal claims to mention lay in her wonderful aquatic powers, but in this story slio leaps at a hound into the realm of the most famous actresses which the screen has produced. Her presentation of the difficult part is a revelation and is full of appeal and convincing strength. At the same time Miss Kellerman is seen n some remarkable aquatic feats which make all her previous performances look tame. The film was produced on one of the Jfimaican islands,. where an entire Moorish city was built specially for the scenas at a cost of some 350,000 dollars. The whole island, from forests to coastline, was pressed into the service of the film-mak-ers and the entire population were employed in the various scenes. Altogether there were some 20,000 persons engaged in the production, and of these now fewer than 19,000 odd appear in one" scene alone. The photography is marvellous, the operators being assisted by the wonderful clear air* which distinguishes the West Indies, and the staging and production can only be described with the word stupendous. It is impossible to give anything ljke an adequate idea of the glories of the film in mere words—Jhe picture must be seen to he appreciated. It will be screened for three, nights only, hut matinees will he given on Thursday and Friday afternoons for the benefit of country patrons and children. The hooking office at the London Music Shop has been kept busy since "tlie plan opened, and sea-ts may he reserved either upstairs, or down, ’intending patrons are advised to make sure of their seats. Music specially composed for “A Daughter of the "Gods” will he interpreted by the Vita Bros.
