COSMOPOLITAN CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting'cm the Cosmo- ( politan Club was held last night. The president, Mr J, A. Eaton, presided over a good attendance of members, and was. supported on the platform by the following:—Sir James Carroll, and Messrs T. A. Hogg (president- elect). T. G. Lawless (vice-president),. T. ITaismann J. Colley. T. Leslie and Hi E. Clarke, f The president stated that the J year’s work had been very satisfactory despite adverse conditions and the j members of the club were to be I heartily congratulated oil the general position of the institution. Ho j moved the adoption of the .report and balance-sheet.

In seconding, Mr J. Colley said • the members were to he congratulated l ;on the successful position. The state j of affairs generally was most satisI factory? particularly considering the I club was the youngest chartered club ! in New Zealand. j Mr Lawless said the position reflected credit on the members and management. “ In welcoming the new president, Mr Eaton said that in electing Mr Hogg to the position the club had. done wisely. The newly-elected vicepresident, Air Lawless, was, he continued, appointed unopposed, be- 1 , cause of the hard work which he had j accomplished in the interests of Uie i Sir James Carroll, on behalf of the members of the club, thanked the retiring president and the members of the committee for the manner in which the. business of the club had , been conducted. The new president i was one of the oldest members of the j club, and one who had devoted much ! of ‘his time to assisting the; work in i connection with the institution, the | club had also done well in appoint- 1 I nig Air Lawless as vice-president. ; The.large amount contributed by the club to patriotic work showed that i whatever might he the difference of | opinion on the part of members in small matters they were absolutely ( united in their effort's to assist in the ! prosecution of the war. I On taking the chair Air Hogg | stated that he regarded Ins appoint- ! meat as a great compliment to hnn--1 self. With the o"--'pcraticn of the committee he hoped 1 > keep the high , standard previous! • maintained. ; Air Lawless, and other newly elected members of the committee, briefly returned tluuiks for their appointment.
