———— INTERESTING “SHOUTING” CASE. , (Press Association 'Telegram.) AUCKLAND, June 26. Judgment was given to-day in a case heard at Helensville in which the licensee of the Pahi Hotel and his wife were chargfed l with committing a breach of the War Regulations dealing with shouting. The facts were that on Sunday, March 3,_ tbe licensee, a member o| tbe Pahi Regatta. Committee, invited memhers of tbe committee into the hotel for refreshments, which were supplied by his wife in the billiard-room from a slide at the bait- _ Eor the prosecution, it was submitted that the circumstances constituted) a ■breach of the regulations, and that the liquor was consumed in tbe bar. Mr. J. E. "Wilson, S.M.. said that in view of decided cases, be was inclined to hold , that licensees, notwithstanding their rights under tlie Licensing Act in certain circumstances, were persons to whom _ special legislation applied. That view was strengthened by Paragraph 12 of the Regulations, which absolved boarders or other bona fide persons from liability for treat-in g(, except in the bar. He could not hold that the billiard-room came under the definition of “bar” as part of tbe premises which were principally or exclusively used for the sale, supply, or consumption of intoxicating liquor. The informations were dismissed.
