WOOL PURCHASE SCHEME

HAWKE’S BAY PROTEST AGAINST MR. LYSNAR’S ACTION. (Press Association Telegram.) HASTINGS. June 26. The president of the Hawke’s Bay branch of the Farmers’ Union (Mr. H. M. Campbell) has sent the following telegram to the Hon. W. D. S. MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture: “Re Imperial purchase of New Zealand wool, as president, I wish to protest against Mr. Lysnar’s action in trying to delay or in any way alter the terms of the Imperial Government’s commandeering of New Zealand wool for the forthcoming year. Practically every grower here is quite satisfied with the present basis of commandeering. , Mr. Lysnar is acting without this union’s authority.” . Interviewed. Mr Campbell said that wool growers had been well treated by the Imperial Gova eminent, and it would be extremely “ unpatriotic to try to bleed them for the last possible penny the wool may be worth. Referring to a telegram from Mr. Campbell (president of the Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Union), Mr. Lysnar, who was- interviewed this evening, said Mr. Campbell’s protest was rather premature, as he had not expressed any opinion on the matter. Mr. Lysnar stated that he was elected by a majority vote of the Agricultural and Pastoral Associations and Farmers’ Unions and Sheepfarmers’ Unions of Hawke’s Bay, Poverty Bay. Wairoa, Dannevirke, and Wobdville, to represent those districts on the Dominion Wool Committee set up on the suggestion of the Premier to act in conjunction with the New Zealand controller in connection with the sale of wool to the Imperial authorities. Mr. Lysnar has wired to Mr. Fraser. secretary of the Farmers’ Union at Hastings, expressing his readiness to return on Saturday to meet members of the Union, and stating that he understands the Minister intends calling a general conference before the negotiations are concluded l .
