SINKING OF THE GREER

The Navy Department announces that the steamer Schurz, which before the United States s ® lz ®d aor was the German vesseL Geier, was sunk in collision with the steamei Florida off Cape Lookout. The crew were picked up. There was one Austrian and N.Z. Cable-Association (Received June 25, 12.10 a-m.) NEW YORK, June 24. ' Further details of the sinking of tJhn ’ Greer show 1 that the tank steam er Florida cut a huge hole yin the Greer which sank quickly. Meanwhile the officers and men, numbering 250, were rescued. Scores jumpinto the sea when the collision occurred and several were injured. The collision occurred at dawn in clear weather, and' the caiise is not known. . 1 . The crew arrived to-day and relate sensational incidents of the rescue. Th© tank steamer was uninjured.
