(The departure from Samoa.recently of Mr A. R. Cobcroft. who intends joining the New Zealand forces, recalls a somewhat sensational pursuit of native murderers, in which Mr Qobcroft took part, writes a Samoan correspondent. In February, 1914 four of the native constabulary murdered a German planter, named Treviranus, and his manager, Schlitt, and took to the bush. An expedition against the murderers was organised by Mr Cobchoft and Herr von Egidy, eleven Europeans taking part, and after a fight lasting five hours, three of the natives were shot, and a fourth captured. During the fight, a German planter named Hellige ""’as killed, and a native police official severely wounded. Herr von Egidy, who assisted in organising the expedition, was subsequently-interned. He was one of the party that escaped from Motuihi with Count von Luckner, and recaptured at the Kermadecs.
