INTIMIDATION IN IRELAND.
SINN FEIN’S FIRM HAND. A REMARKABLE SITUATION. United Press Association —Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association (Received June 18. 1.25 a.rn.) LONDON, June 17. The Daily Chronicle states that thousands of Irishmen are Jiving under intimidation, which is universal. Many subscriptions to the socalled National Defence Fund and man v signatures to the anti-conscrip-tion pledge were obtained, by direct and unashamed intimidation. If a member of a Board of Guardians points out a doctor or other officer who has not subscribed to the funds, the Guardians postpone consideration of his business until the culprit has explained the- omission. The official invariably amends the fault, A wellknown agriculturist .subscribed £IOO to the Defence Fund, knowing his crops would not be reaped if he did not. Just as the deportation of Sinn Fein leaders pleased many Nationalists, so thousands of Irishmen would welcome a revival of trial by Special Juries and a change of verue, if it would end intimidation.
