It is estimated that at least £OO people r.'ere killed in the Pittsburg explosion. A large area was wrecked. Tlie rescuers were handicapped by noxious gases and the heat. ~ Debris was thrown great distances. Many of those wounded may die. There were many explosions in quick succession and some of the rescuers perished.
