THE ENEMY POWERS.
MORE GUFF FOR THE ALLY"?. Reuter's Telegrams. AMSTERDAM. May 19 Dr. von Hertling, interviewed by the Berlin correspondent .of the newspaper Azest, said he rejoiced in the German-Hungarian comradeship in arms, which obtained better protection of Hungary’s frontiers and other guarantees against Roumanian attack. Dr. von Hertling dwelt on the beneficial effects of the new Aus-tro-German alliance, which was not aggressive hut designed to secure our place in the sun. He added, smilingly: If the world is ever united in an international peace league Germany would unhesitatingly and joyfully join. Unfortunately the present conditions give the smallest liope thereof. Our desire is to win and preserve peace. We are now fighting for our existence and the peace which we long for. I am optimistic enough to believe we will have peace this. year. Although Entente statesmen still talk of crushing the Central Powers, it might have been thought that the attacks on Mr. Lloyd-George which after all indicate the strengthening of the peace idea would have created a better basis far peace, hut this was not the case; nevertheless he was firmly confident that further events on the *\ esb front would bring nearer, the speedy encl of the war.
