Mr fehortt, M.P.. has been been appointed Chief Secretary and Mr Duke (formerly Chief Secretary) has been appointed Lord Justice of Appeal.

(Received May 6, 7.45 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 5. The Irish Freedom Society, at a meeting in Madison Square Gardens, bitterly denounced England, those present taking an oath to stand by Ireland.

Mrs Sheehv Skeffington said that if the hope of. Britain was Irish conscription. England would be wiped out. “England will,” she declared, “be defeated by the spirit of the Sinn Fein.” A number of members of the American Secret Service 'wore present at the meeting.
