Ravelsberg, the v re-attacked fiercely in the vicinity of Wytschaete. There was a terrific onslaught till midday and it rvos reported : n the afternoon that we had fallen hack from Wytschaete to the forward slopes of the ridge. , Peckham and Spanbroo«n olen were the scenes of th e huge mine explosions last June. Northwards the whole front is aflaze. Six battalions' held the Bailleul line against three divisions, fighting stubbornly till compelled to withdraw to the smoking ruins, whero the most savage fighting continued all night. Before dawn we drew hack north of the town, where we >stood off further attacks to-day. When the Moodiest fighting extended m the direction of Meteren, without our yielding further ground.
