TRAMWAYS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l notice in your isdue of Friday last tlfat you have me down as being in favor of tli© present tram system. Although not enamored with the Edison storage battery, I am of opinion it can be used as a payable proposition. I fee] sure the tramway as it now stands will never bo a profitable concern, 'unless extended to the suburbs and the more populated areas. Another thing, to my mind, is tliht the cars have never had fair treatment. Let us give them a square deal. It’s all very well people talking about scrapping them. If once the cars stop running, \vg can say good-bye to them, for “it may be for years and it may 'be for ever.” If the cars are done away With the rates will have to be paid just the same, so why not have the tramways? I believe in progress, but at a much quicker rate than hitherto—l am, yours, etc., HERBERT H. DE COSTA.
