REPORT OF EDUCATION BOARD MEETING. {E’rf'm Our Special Correspondent.) NAPIER, Feb. 9. ’The following Poverty Bay business was transacted at yesterday’s meeting of the Education Board. — 'The Gisborne School Committee wrote concerning a report by the inspector that the seats were quite out of date, and seven children were seated at a . desk. Mr Orawshaw (secretary) reported that the new type of seats were being put in as quickly as possible, and it was decided that the matter be held over in the meantime. ' Tlie Makaraka Committee ’ wrote asking for payment for sanitary fittings. Tlie Board decided that the Committee had received no authority and it was a matter of principle. The fittings were, however, in a very bad condition and there was some urgency .about the matter. It was decided that the amount that- tlie Board would have had to pay. which was less than that paid by the Committee, be refunded to the Committee.

An application was made by Tokomaru Bay, and this was supported by Mr Oates. There was lerigtliy discussion and it was decided to send fittings at once to relieve the strain at present. Departmental correspondence was received advising that the application for an addition at Whatatutu had been deferred to the end of March. Gisborne East reported on a fire in tbe school building. The report was received and it was decided to write to the neighbors thanking them for help given at the fire . Works approved : Repairs to conveniences, Waerenga-a-hika, £l7 18s; Wigan, painting, £35; Gisborne technical class-rooms, improvements. £192 ss. . ...

Resignations received: —Miss D. Goddard, assistant, Motuhora; Miss Thelma McLeod, pupil teacher, Gisborne. Transfers approved : —Mr Maurice O’Donnell, probationer, from Napier Port to Tologa Bay; Miss Murphy, assistant, from Tologa Bay to Napier North; Miss G. Tuohy, sole teacher, Rissington, to assistant, Ngatapa; Mrs deGrenlaw, assistant, Ngatapa, t 0 sole teacher Rissington; Miss H. Mead, assistant, Waipiro Bay, to assistant Tologa Bay; Miss L. Ellis, assistant Tologa Bay to assistant Waipiro Bay. Tlie following appointments were reported : —Gisborne, Doris Emynerson; Gisborne East, George Vigis; Probationers: —Gisborne Main, Gisborne East, Gisborne North, no applicant; Tologa Bay, Maurice O’Donnell. The following,' on the recommendation of the secretary (Mr G. Bradshaw), were granted senior scholarships.' The school attended and proposed to be attended is in each case the same, and is given in parenthesis. Lorna Chrisp (High School, Gisborne), E. Hueston (High School. Gisborne), J. R. Lockie (High School, Gisborne). H J. Priestley (High School, Gisborne). A £lO scholarship grant has been made in each case. Junior scholarships: —Bosnia A. Benson, Ormond (Gisborne H.b.), Ethel E. Black, Gisborne H.b., (Gisborne High School), A. D. Chrisp, Gisborne H.S. (Gisborne); Mary E. Jackson, Gisborne H-p----(Gisborne H.S.); H. 0. Rowley. Gisborne H.S. (Gisborne H.S.); E. 1. Wills, Gisborne (Nelson College). A £5 grant was allowed m each case.
