ASHBURTON, Jan. 2,
An elderly man, James Hawkins, committed suicide last evening. _He strangled himself with binder twine. He tied a noose round his-.neck and tied the other end to a door handle* He pulled back until he was suffocated. He left a letter for the Public Trustee as to how to dispose of property, and three other letters to friends. He is supposed to have been drinking heavily during the holidays.
