The King issues the folloAving: To my people—The world- tvide struggle for the triumph of Liberty is entering on the last and most difficult phase. The enemy are striving, by desperate assaults and subtle intrigue, to perpetuate wrongs already committed. To stem the tide and! free civilisation, AA r e yet have to complete the great task to Avhich we dedicated ourselves. I -would call upon you to devote a special day of prayer that we may ha\’e tlie clear-sightedness and strength necessary for the victory of our cause. This victory ivill be gained only if we steadfastly remember tlie responsibility resting upon us, and, in a spirit of re\ 7 erent obedience, ask tlie blessing of Almighty God upon our endeavors. Let- us seek to be enlightened in our understanding, and fortified in courage in facing the sacrifices avc may vet have to make. . I therefore appoint January 6, tlie first Sunday in the New Year, to be set aside as a special day of prayer and thanksgiving in all -churches throughout my dominions.
