MATAWHERO STOCK SALE.

There was an average attendance of buyers and ■ others at' the Poverty Bay Stockbrokers’ Association’s weekly Jive stock sale at the Matawhero yards • yesterday. Sheep sold well, but for cattle there was a ; poor demand, and Jerseys, which again formed a large percentage of the yarding, elecited poor competition. The entries of fat sheep totalled 295, Wether hoggets (shorn) brought 255, ewe hoggets (shorn) 265, and ewes (shorn) 30s. Sixteen head of fat cattle were penned and six were passed. Six bullocks (light) made £ll 15s each and three £l4 10s. A fat bullock presented by Mr. Frank Sherriff for sale on behalf of the Ited Cross was purchased by Messrs. Fiskili and Ludwig for £2B. A yarding of 18 pigs met with good competition and practically all were sold under the hammer; Baconers made fiom 34 s 6d to 455, porkers from 16s to 19s. and slips from 14s 6d to 18s. Exclusive of lambs sold with ewes there was an entry of 3229 store sheep, comprising 1678 empty ewes, 825 hoggets, 447 ewes '(with 436 lambs), and 279 wethers. Sales were made as under:—4B ewes old and in wool .with 45 lambs at 30s, 161 wether hoggets (woolly) at 28s, 36 fat and forward ewes (woolly) at 28s, 46 4-tooth ewes (woolly) at 355, 66 hoggets, fat and forward, mixed sexes and in wool at 275, 15 ewes (woolly) at 25s 9d, 2 hoggets (woolly) at 15s, 32 hoggets, mixed sexes (woolly) at 23s Id, 18 at 22s 7d, 11 4-tooth wethers (woolly) at 34s 6d, 8 cull ewes, (lates horn) at 12s 9d, 3 ewes and 3 lambs at 325. 12 old ewes (shorn) at 18s, 16 ewes (woolly) and 19 lambs at 275, 29 hoggets, mixed sexes (woolly) at 20s Id, 108 4-tooth wethers (woolly) at • 40s, 7 cull 'ewes (woolly) at 13s 3d, 30 fit 15s, 160 2-tooth wethers (woolly) £i. 32s 7d, 23 wether hoggets (woolly) at 22s 6d, 16 hoggets, mixed sexes (woolly) at 18s 6d, 21 ewes (woolly) and 21 lambs at 30s 3d, 152 ewes (woolly) and 142 lambs at 26s 6d. The yarding of store cattle totalled 525 head, including 282 steers, 141 heifers and 87 cows. The demand was poor, and passings were very frequent. The following sales were made at auction: 23 2-year steers, Shorthorn cross at £lO, 27 15-months steers, Shorthorn cross at £7 l<?s. 5 cows and 1 calf £9 2s 6d, 6 3-year bullocks at £l2, 5 bullocks, Shorthorns (forward) at £ls ss, 9 2-year heifers (dairy sorts) at £B, 1 2-year steer, Shorthorn cross at £B. In the dairy section 10 cows and heifers were offered. Springing heifers made to £l2. Five hulls were offered and only one was sold, the price being 13t guineas.
