HAMMER SMASH IN CHURCH.
FATHER ATTACKS MEMORIAL TABLET TO HIS SON. There was a painful scene in the village church of Burston. Norfolk, when a parishioner attacked with a heavy hammer a memorial mural tablet in memory of his soldier son who was killed in action. With about thirty hard blows lie bad already cracked it and defaced some of the - lettering, "when he was seized by the vicar and church oracers and the hammer was taken from Though the tablet was erected by the soldier’s uncle; the father strongly resented it on the ground that he was not consulted and wished to erect a memorial to his son in another church. He tried unsuccessfully at Norwich Consistory Court one Saturday to have the memorial removed.
