LOSS OF HIMALAYA.
DISASTER CAUSED BY EXPLOSION. 176 SURVIVORS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. PARIS, July 1. Official: The Himalaya has been sunk in the Mediterranean as the result of an explosion. There were 204 on board, and 176 were saved. There were no civilians,aboard.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received July 2, 7.5 p.m.) PARIS, July 1. The steamer Himalaya, was chartered by the Messageries, Company. She was sunk at daybreak on the 22nd.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received July 23, 1.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 2. Some confusion has arisen in regard to the' cabled account of the sinking of the Himalaya. \ ' . The'first reports were taken to indicate a P. and 0;. steamer. Router states that the Himalaya is a Messageries Maritimes -boat chartered by the Government. It is now generally accepted tliat the cable refers to a french boat of that name. ' ‘ ' ' -
