The Morning Post, in a special article on the West Front, says there there are abundant indications that the Germahs are short of guns and ammunition. . Although manv guns are mas'sed at certain points the rest of the line is skinned in order to do so. The British counter-battery work never ceases. When an enemy battery is detected suddenly anything from 150 to 500 British heavy shells are turned oh the Spot. ■ - _ ; ' ' In this way it is estimated that the British have destroyed 1280 German guns during the past twentythree weeks. «

LONDON, July 1. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Following yesterday’s success southward of Lens, we attacked last night on the north bank of the Soucliez and captured the enemy’s defences on a halfmile front south-west and west of the town.
We successfully raided last night north-eastward ox Epehy.

General Sir Douglas Haig reports that during June we captured 8688 Germans, including 175 officers; 67 guns, including two of the heaviest, 102 trench mortars and 345 machine guns; also great quantities of other material.

A French communique says: In the Cerny-Aillis sector the bombbardment has redoubled in intensity. A violent enemy attack followed in East Corny over a five hundred metre front, along both sides of the" Aillis-Pajssy road. The enemy occupied a. line of„trenclies evacuated by us. , Our artillery played great h«avoc with the enemy who were unable to push their attack further, despite all efforts.
