The New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association, being desil’OllS of providing a sufficient number of doctors to satisfy the requirements of. the military and civil authorities during the war, appointed a committee representative of the profession throughout New Zealand to draw up proposals to submit to the Government. The committee made a, series of' tentative proposals which the Government could not accept in their entirety. The committee further considered the matter m the las ■few days, and after hearing the views of the Minister of Health, have now made further recommendations, the principal ofyhich are: That an Ad.•vigory (Board, consisting of six members of the Medical Association be “lb- up to'which the military and civil authorities can apply from time to time for advice and assistance; that M D men be enrolled with a, view to their, being called up compulsorily as required for military service, provided man called shall have the right-of tpS S the Advisory Board; that' tlifrc be conditional lustration; jhat the services of applicants be ilaced at the disposal, firstly, of the Minister for defence and, ■hf, Minister ,of Health. the com nittee cannot agree Ao. the propos >f the Minister of Health that tne n-ofession he mobilised for the purpose of transferring M.D. men from listricts already adequately supplied :o districts where there, is a s c arci y jf ‘ practitioners, as this would he creating the profession in a way en;irely different from; other classes or ;he community;.
