GISBORNE (RACING CLUB

ACCEPT’ANCES A FOR STEEPLE-, CHASE MEETING.

Horse owners and trainers are given a final reminder that. acceptances for the first day of the Gisborne Racing Club’s Steeplechase Meeting close with the secretary, Mr H. E. Dodd, to-night at 9 o’clock. The meeting takes place on Thursday and Saturday of next week. GISBORNE RACING CLUB REHANDICAPS. Tlie following re-handicaps are announced in connection with the Gisborne Racing Club’s forthcoming meeting^ Gisborne Steeplechase: St. Elmn 11.0. Hack Flat: Slip stitch 9.12.

Good prices were paid for the Auck : ent winners at Auckland and Otaki meetings, the soft going no doubt .upsetting tlie calculations of the public. One winner at Otaki paid over a halt a century, whilst double-figure divs. were common at both places. The full-sister to Lady Gazeley . (Milmany) in W. Olive’s stable,< is bowling along very freely in pier work, and looks like running prominently in the maidens next week. All Grey is reported to bo taking to jumping like a duck does to water, and later on may be equal to talqng out a hurdle race. Imposter was decidedly sore after contesting * the Wanganui Steeplechase and had to be rested for a short time. . Referring to Slipstiteh’s wm at Eller slic, the Star reports:—Both the favorites (Fidelio and Sir Ralph) were badly placed in the early stages, the leading division comprising Jocular, Independence and Slipstitcli. Once in the straight Independence shot, to the front, but the 'lrish-bred fally Slipstitcli, answering gamely to thecalls of Hewitt, gradually 'yore her down in the run up tlie straight and won by half a length. Sir Ralph and Fidelio came from a long way back, and got third and fourth respectively. The winner is one of the lot purchased in Ireland by Sir James Carroll for Mr H. deLautour, and this made her first success since cornice- to New Zealand. The mare ant her rider (L 7 H. Hewitt) got a good reception on returning to scale. There would appear to be more than a possibility of the British Government permitting, after all a limited amount of racing in England this season. When approached by a deputation from the English Jockey Club Mr Lloyd George promised to discuss the question again at the end of this month, and that is interpreted as a hopeful sign from the aspect of those who do not desire to see racing discontinued entirely. Reporting on the Great Eortnei n Steeplechase the Star says: When they took up their positions at the post Troublesome was next the wails, with Gluepot, Diavolo, El Gallo, Raima Mist, Bonnie Jean, C/.armms, Morecambe, St, Elmn.
