FUTURE OF GIBRALTAR.
General Primo de Rivera has been elected a member of the Spanish American Academy. In his’ reception speech he outlined the history of Gibraltar, and repudiated any idea of its being ceded to Spain under an alleged agreement between the European Entente Powers and Great Britain. He expressed tho opinion, howover that Great Britain in her gratitude for tli© zeal with ywbiqh Spain had maintained a loyal neutrality •might during the war consider an exchange of Gibraltar, for Ceuta and Melilla, which in the hands of Spain were prejudicial to her, while in foreign hands they would be advantageenabling their professor to- exploit Africa. The speaker was loudly applauded, Captain-General Prime de Rivera, Marquis de Estilla. a very distinguished officer, has held a largo number of. high military and administrative posts in Spain, f He is now no longer on the active list (Reuter adds), and cannot he considered a factor in Spanish political life. .
