The position of reservists called up under the ballot - who have heavy financial obligations by way ol leases was before the Third Wellington Military Service Board lately. Tlie Board was considering the case of a fanner whose lease still had some 'months to run. The lessor refused to release the lessee, who was accordingly very anxious about bis position. it was stated that there was no. regulation dealing with such cases, and Captain Baldwin, military representative, urged that the Chairman should niako representations to the Minister. Men compulsorily enlisted should be- protected, especially as they were going to protect the property of the lessors. Captain Baldwin mentioned the case of a lessee in AVelliiigton whose rent amounted to something, like £lo per week, However, he, had not passed the doctor.
