NATIONAL SERVICE AT HOME.

WOMEN WANtTfAIR SHARE

(Australian and N.Z- Cable Assn.) / LONDON, Jan. 29. Mr Neville Chamberlain’s decision not to make a simultaneous appeal to men and women has chagrined many women’s societies. They propose that a committee of prominent women who have proved their usefulness during the war should be appointed to enrol and draft women into duties suitable to their training and ability without the interference of men.

Lady Frances Balfour urges that it is impossible to separate civilians Into sexes in regard to national service. Mr. Chamberlain’s introduction of sex makes an artificial difference which is hound to render the scheme inefficient. The whole of the people should be included immediately on the same basis. Mrs. Mary Macarthur claims that women should receive a minimum living wage and 16s' weekly extra wlien away from home, as Air. Chamberlain promises men. This would mean a revolution in women’s wages.

APPEAL FOR WOMEN MUNITIONER'S. * (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn). (Received Jan. 30, 6.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 30. The Employment Exchange is advertising for 8000 women between 18 years and 40 years, to fill shells. The wages are about 28s a week.
