AUCKLAND APPEALS. (Press Association Telegram.) AUCKLAND. Jan. 26 The Military Service Board sat at Auckland to-day to hear thirty-seven appeals, including sixteen from tuo Railway Department. An application by Bishop Ays : oi asked for the exemption _or A; 0-3-clergymen who field ccnimn-i-ms chaplains. He could not undeystand why. having volunteered, they sue aid nave been included in the bahot. Major Conlan said these clergymen, were entitled to retain their cenmussions. Many men who had volunteered were included in the ballot. ■ Manyterritorial officers had been called upon and been informed they musteither volunteer or resign their eeiiimissions. Evidently tue Government had no need of more chaplains at present. _ ' , The Board decided as these __ three clergy had already volunteered theappeal would be allowed. In support of the appeals on behalf of the men employed on the railway, the District Traffic Manager said the Department was down to bedrock.. would be extremely difficult to replace men called on. After hearing evidence In individual appeals, all the railway men were released.

WELLINGTON CASES. (Press Association Telegram.) WELLINGTON. Jan. 26. Hie Third Wellington Military Service Board fneld its first sitting to-day. An appeal on behalf of Frederick Smith, taxi-driver, was dismissed, cue month’s leave of absence being granted. Two appeals' were allowed m cases where appellants . had proved not to be in the first division. Several marine eases wore adjourned, in order that they could be taken together and all treated alike. Two returned soldiers’ appeals were allowed. Religious objections were toe grounds ■of appeals made by Thcmas Charles Wood and Frederick Y< 6k am Anderson. Both were dismissed. F ive appellants failed to appear, and t-kerr appeals were dismissed.
