PERSONAL NOTES.
Mr. E. Dawson, of the- Agiuultur.il Department, Gisborne, who has been, transferred to Auckland, will be succeeded here by Mr. W. J. Dunlop, not by Mr. H. E. Allen, a s stated in yesterday's issue. Mr. Allen will succeed Mr. TV. Ross, Fields Inspector at Gisborne.
The death is announced of Captain John Bishop, N.Z.S.C., at Sling Camp. England, on January 15. Captain Bishop was at one time stationed at Gisborne, first as sergeant-major and then as lieutenant. He was afterwards transferred to Napier a? adjutant of the East Coast Regiinwit. After the outbreak of war he was transferred to Palmerston N. He went into camp with the Ist and 2nd Battalions of the Rifle Brigade, and sailed with: the 3rd and 4th in February of last year. Before sailing lie received his commission as captain. Since his arrival at Sling Camp he nad been acting as adjutant to the Rifle Brigade,
Mr. TV . Ross, Fields Inspector. Gisborne, who is being transferred to Pahiatua, expects to leave Gisborne in about ten days’ time. Mr. Ross was Inspector of Stock. Registrar of Brands, and Inspector of Noxious Weeds for two and a half years for the counties cf Cook and Waikehu: then the Department was reorganised at the end of 1910. and from that time until the present he has been Fields Inspector for the counties of Cook. Waikohu and Waiapu. He was returning officer for the election of the first Board of Trustees for the East Coast Rabbit Board, and prepared the Electoral Roll for the same when the Rabbit Board was inaugurated. and be lias attended all meetings of the Rabbit Board as the representative of the Agricultural Department. A transfer was applied for some time ago to -nable Mr Res> to get. to a district where lie would be easily accessible to where agricultural experimental work is being carried on under the Department’s supervision. Mr. Ross lias greatly interested himself in scientific agriculture and has been looking after experimental plots in lucerne, carrots, and mangolds in this district, and the results have been very satisfactory. It is generally recognised that Mr. Ross has rendered very capable service in this district, and lias many friends here who will wish him all success in his new sphere.
