ACROSS THE BORDER.

ACTION AGAINST MEXICANS.

CARRANZA CO-OPERATES

RUMOR OF BATTLE

VANCOUVER, March 22. General Carranza’s forces are cooperating in the pursuit of General Villa.

A message from Douglas, Arizona, declares that numerous reports are being received of a rebellion among Carranza troopsat Cabullona, 18 miles to the southward. Extra guards have been stationed on the United States side.

The m,ost complete censorship in tlio history of the country lias been established.

It is so effective that the AVar Department itself was not advised of the crossing over the border of troops until hours after the occurrence. Even then only a solitary message reached the Department. It told of tho dispatch of cavalry from Chattanooga to reinforce the border patrol. Rumors are being circulated of lighting on both sides of tho border, and it is stated that one regiment of United States cavalry has been annihilated. Only meagre news may he expected. If there is a battle is will probably he heard of in a message from General Pershing, and through rumors arriving through Mexican sources. The announcement that the chase is on disposes of the rumors of delay in permitting Carranza to carry out Ills own plans for capturing Ahlla before the United States soldiers took up the task. Congress is practically unanimous in concurring with the resolution to increase the regular lighting troops to 120,000.

The Secretary for AVar expresses gratification at the patriotic spirit evinced throughout the country. 'l’he bandits supporting A r illa in parts of North Mexico have not indicated their intention, to brisk activity. Their is no surprise to United States arm v officers. It is expected that in chasing A ilia these hands will have to be engaged from time to time. General Pershing and Colonel Dodd have marched to Mexico wit]) 0000 men. Colonel’ Bertani, commanding tlie Carranza organisation at Palomas, has joined General Pershing with a force of only -100. Eagerness to join in the chase, however, removes the remaining doubt of ■Carranza s attitude.
