(Press Association Telegram.) PALAIERSTOX N., April 4. Airs. Lawrence, the victim of yesterday's fire, died to-day.

WELLINGTON, April 4. Replying to a deputation from the City Council and the Milk Vendors’ Association, the Hon. Mr. 11 n.-srl! said that he would exercise the whole power he possessed for the purpose of strengthening the hands of the Council in ensuring the provision of a supply of pure milk. The Council had full power under the Act of 1910 to establish a clearing house. He suggested that inspectors must be appointed to keep track of milk on railways and the conditions- under which it was sold in a city, especially in shops. The only complete solution of the difficulty was to bo found in the Council undertaking tike control of the distribution of milk. By that means the cost to the consumer could be reduced iby 20 or 25 per cent., and still leave the Council a profit. A. deputation representing the Friendly Societies of Wellington waited on the lions. Russell and Hanan this afternoon to ask if the latter could give assistance in connection with tlio present breach with the doctors. They pointed cut that the lodges were quite without doctors, and tlio position was very acute. Several conferences had been held, but while tlio societies were prepared to raise the payment pey member per annum for medical attention from 15s to 18s the doctors demanded 245. The deputation asked if tilers was present or likelihood cf future legislation to prevent lodges importing doctors from America. The. Ministers expressed sympathy, and Mr. Russell said that any medical man qualified to register in the United Kingdom was qualified to register in New Zealand. He would do everything possible to overcome the present deadlock. NAPIER, April 4.
