In tlie opinion of Senior-inspector Bird there is too much work in the Hawke’s Bay Education District for two inspectors, and he states that probably within the next three or four months a third inspector will he appointed.

The clerk notified that His Worship will he absent from Gisborne for the AVairoa sittings on April 12, so that a further remand will he necessary.
Several courses of instmetion "'ll he inaugurated at the Technical SehcKp tin's week. To make, the time-table of classes fit in. with the convenience of students, preliminary meetings are to be held during the week, in the brick school, Derby Street. This evening woodworkers will meet, tomorrow evening engineering students, and on Friday students wishing to prepare for the matriculation examination. The men from the local Territorial Companies who are to attend the casual camp at liengiotu on April 7 will assemble at the Garrison Hall at G o’clock tin's evening with their baggage packed. They will be given official labels for their baggage and will march to the wharf at 7.1 d, sailing by the s.s. Tarawcra for Napier, and going through to cam]) to-morrow by rail. The Defence Department will not be responsible for any portmanteaux or extra personal luggage, nor for any swag not carrying the official label.

The members of the Foresters and Druids Lodges assembled at tlie Masonic Hall last evening for a friendly euchre tourney. About 12 tables were filled, and the games were even and exciting. Two and a-half hours’ play resulted in a draw, both sides having gained 98 points. A play-off between representative players from either side resulted in a win lor the Foresters by one point.

A narrow escape from drowning was experienced by a boy nine years of age yesterday afternon while lislnng from the Tarulieru footbridge. By some means lus line became entangled round his legs, and he fell into tlie river. On coming to the surface he boat to one of the piles of the bridge, and there supported himself till one of his companions, a. lad named A) ray MvKeaguo, plunged in to his rescue and brought him safely to the steps of the bridge.
