THE RECRUITING SCHEME.
MR- MASSEY’S CONFIDENCE
(Press Association Telegram.) WELLINGTON, March G
“Our principal concern at the present moment is to get the now recruiting scheme in working order,” said the Prime Minister to-day, when the prospect of a. shortage in the. ,14th Reinforcements was mentioned. “There may ho a temporary shortage this week, hut the real test will como in a few weeks whom the scheme is in .full operation, and we ascertain 0 it is producing the men required. Local bodies arc. taking up the work in the right spirit for the most part, and recruiting organisation will soon bo busv. The reports to hand with regard‘to the personal canvass wherever the system has been applied, a'e very satisfactory. Many local bodies and recruiting committees have not got to that stage, but I am confident the work will proceed. AVhen the people of this country realise that t we are to win this war we must appl.v ourselves with all our heart and sold and strength to the task ol aflnoving victory, then I am certain we w I secure all the men we need. Nov Zealand has scarcely commeneecl to make sacrifices up to the jucsent time,' if we except those. people wo have lost relatives -and friends at the front. The time is coming when sacrifices must be made. I believe almost every individual and every section of‘the community are ready to do their share.” ________
