OVERSEAS RIFLE CLUB.

YESTERDAY’S SHOOT,

The opening meeting of the Rifle Club for the season was held on the Mangapnpa range yesterday, when there- was an excellent attendance of members and visitors, the clnbs represented being Gisborne, Waikohu, Ngatapa and Legion, of Frontiersmen. The shooting on the -whole was excellent, a noteworthy feature of the day being the improvement in the scoring by the visiting teams. The weather conditions during the greater •part of the -day were good, the lightbeing clear and what little wind was blowing was very steady. The old stagers of the Gisborne Club held their own against all comers, Rait as usual putting up a good tally, and Snelgar, who tied with him, should feel well satisfied with his day’s work. Breingan is generally heard of when he is wanted, and lie did not fail on this occasion. Faulkner is a consistently good shootist at all times, and he has had bard lurk on several occasions in the past when trophies are in tho balance. He showed gooct form qn tho day’s shooting, and being a sticker of the first water, there can be no doubt that his will be a case of “perseverance rewarded” when the'season closes and . the' prizes are distributed.

Armstrong was the surprise packet last season, and lus record yesterday shows that he will have to be reckoned with in the future.

For the visitors, Hay and Dymoek, of Waikohu, and Williams, of Ngatapa, gave a good account of themselves and will doubtless he well to the fore as their knowledge in shooting craft extends. Altogether some 35 Riflemen competed. The chief scores were as follows: -
