RAILWAY TO TAUPO.
POSITION OF TO X GAR IK 0 COY. Bv Telegraph—Special Correspondent. AVELLINGTON, Sept. 29. The Parliamentary Committee, to which was referred the petition of the Tongariro Timber Company that the Government support the Company s. scheme to build a railway foin Kakahi to Lake Taupo, has presented a report. The petitioners, it appears, have now withdrawn their request that the Government guarantee debentures of trie Company to the amount of. £300,000 to build and equip with rolling stock the railway referred to. The Committee lecommend that the powers o' forfeiture contained in the agreement with the Aotea District Maori Lari Board, together with the powers of debentureholders, creditors, shareholders, and others lie suspended until two years after the termination of. the wa: to enable the petitioners to make financial arrangements for the construction of the said railway. The recommendation provided that the Government will retain the right, to at any time terminate the, protection granted.
