METHOD OF TREATMENT. Pv Telo"raph—Special Correspondent y a WELLINGTON, June 24. In reply to a question to-day regarding the sick and wounded New Zealanders who are returning by the steamer Willochra, the Minister for Defence (Hon. Jas. Allen) said- that tho men on' arrivaE would be examined by the Director of Medical feeivico (Dr. Purdy) and afterwards they would bo classified and handed ovu to Colonel Valintino, Director oi .Military Hospitals, who, having made his previous arrangements, would allot them according to whet hot it "as necessary for them to undergo hospital treatment, to the various hospitals alreadv in New Zealand. Valintino had ascertained what accommodation there was available in all tho hospitals and was Keeping i touch with them to ascertain what-ac-commodation was available fiom clay to The men returning, said the Minister, would be met in Wellington and, if necessary, a train would bo organised. Those who ueie to „ to the Wellington Hospital would be loft there and the others would be detrained at the various hospitals on the way to Auckland I hose fit to go to their homes would bo sent thoio at the Government’s expense. If tlieie wore convalescents not fit to go to their- homes, tho Director of Medical Hospitals would, out of tlio numerous offers mado to tho Department, fix up in convalescent homes. Be would select tho homes most suitable, equip them wliero necessary and put the men into them. , ~ ~ Under its new organisation, said Mi Allen, the Department was capable of running the whole of the service itself and all it desired was that where the public could help by _ sending extra comforts for the mon m the hospitals and convalescent homos, .they would clp so. ’ Thoy-eould not bo allowed to interfere in tho administration but the Department would bo grateful tor their help in the direction indicated. They mipht kcGD in touch with tiio men in tho hospitals and convalescent homes and an occasional visit under supervision would do no harm, through indiscriminate visiting could not ho allowed.
