GOOD NEWS FOB B.IFLEMEN AND TERRITORIALS. Major J. Osborne-Lilley. of the Defence' Department, has been in Gisborne during the past few days, making inquiries concerning a site for a riifc range for this district. In reply to a question [iuc by a "Times representative last evening. Major LiUey said that he could give no definite information concerning the location of the range, as he was required to make a confidential report to District Headquarters. Apart from this, however, he could say, as a result of Ins investigations, that Gisborne would, m the near future, be m possession of a mostsuitable range—in fact, that by the spring it should be nearly fit lor service. ... . ' , This pronouncement will he welcome news to tiie members of tne Gisborne Rille Clubs and the different Territorial units, whose efficiency has been somewhat impared by the lack of a suitable range on which to carry outrifle practice and musketry instruction. It will be remembered that Some six months ago an inspection was made by several staff officers of trie proposed range on Kaiti, but since that date nothing further lias been heard of the matter. On this account the pronouncement of Alajor OsborneLillev will be welcome news to trie shootists of the district who had become pessimistic of trio possibility or securing a suitable ride range in tin vicinity of Gisborne.
