SEVENTV-XINE MEN PASS THE MEDICAL TEST Gisborne continues to do. its par* nobly ill the matter of providing men for the front. . ..* A medical examination was held at the Garrison .Hall hot night of candidates for enlistment. It was anticipated that upwards of -SO or 30 men would offer themselves, but to the surprise of tlie Area officers something like double that ' number came forward. in addition to the men who came forward to undergo the medical test, no less than 23 registered for service in the hall last night. Lieut. Slipper and SergeantWoodward and Andrew had an exceedingly busy time of it, and with Drs. Williams and Singes were kep* going at top pressure from 7.30 last night until 1 o'clock this morn nig. During tin’s time the doctors put through no fewer than 87 men, 79 of whom were passed as medically fit, while there were only eight rejects, a proportion of about 10 per cent., which is eminently satisfactory. Dr. Williams, after tee examination, stated that the men . who had passed through their hands last night were a splendid stairm. and would ho a credit to any country. In addition "to those put thro;.an last night, there are-still 70 men re gistered for service at the local Defence Office.

Lieut. .flipjKU- and his staff are to be highly complimented upon the work they are doing in enlistino- men for the iront. They have been working exceptionally long hours, but neither they nor the medical examiners seem to mind this so long as they can ge* t-he men ready to send forward whenever they are called noon. Gisborne bids fair to establish a record for recruiting for the Dominion, as men are still coming forward in splendid style.
