TOKOMARU BAY. (From Our Own Correspondent). TOKOMARU BAY, March 8. On AVednesday' last a young man named Arthur Demain met with a painful accident. He is employed by Messrs Oates Bros, and whilst carting a load of chaff to the store was jolted off the load on to the road and tho wheel-passed over liis leg. He was attended by Dr Ick Hewins, and is progressing favorably. Mrs Eric Morse, who has been away for some time owing to ill-health, returned home during tho week and is consideraoly better for tlie change. Mr S. J. Williams,, our popular postmaster, returned home on Sunday after his annual vacation. The acting postmaster, Mr Bercy Meredith, leaves on Ai ednesday on his leave. Mr A. Parlane, who is at present on leave, owing to a nervous breakdown, is almost right again and expects shortly to resume duty. A movement is on foot here to form an East Coast Boxing Association. A meeting lias been called and steps for its formation will be taken at an early date. The meeting is being arranged by Mr Hugh Patterson. A -meeting of the Tennis Club is called for Monday night, when matters affecting the business of'the Club and arrangements for the forthcoming tournament will be fixed up. Good support bv outside players is already assured, and it is hoped that some of the Gisborne players will also take part in the competition. On Friday night last the first of the Lyric Assemblies was held in the Tokornam Bay Town Hall. The hall was comfortably filled and a most enjoyable evening spent. 'The ladies, in particular, bad been looking forward to these assemblies and many nice dresses were worn. It is the intention of the committee to hold these gatherings at regular intervals. Excellent music was provided and the catering was in the capable hands of Mr Jas Eckford. The following is a list of some of the dresses: — Mrs -vLcCran, sapphire blue crepe de chine. Mrs AV*.
