A BOLD OPERATION.
What tlie Coroner referred to as an extremely clever and bold operation by the surgeons at Westminster Hospital was described at the inquest on Sybil .iliee Langford, lately of Horton, Somerset. The woman suffered from swelling of the thyroid gland, rendering her liable to 'sudden death. When it was decided to operate, the surgeons, said Dr Tarrant. recognising that the woman was extremely nervous, gave her several inhalations or gas, so that she would not know when the operation was to take place. After four days the surgeons commenced the operation, and it had nearly been completed when tho patient’s heart ceased to heat. Dr. Trevor, pathologist, spoke in high terms of the careful steps taken by the surgeons to reduce tin- fright. The Coroner, describing the doctors’ skill as extraordinary, said time if tinpatient had lived a little longer she would no doubt have recovered from fr.fr effects of the oneiatum.
