RIFLE SHOOTING.
POVERTY BAY ASSOCIATION
INITIAL MEETING. The initial meeting af the Poverty Bay Rifle Association was held at Makauri yesterday under perfect weather conditions. There was a large crowd present, over 60 entrants competing.
The shooting was good all round, and whilst the Gisborne men were predominant, the country clubs should have every reason to be satisfied with the good showing put up by their members. The enthusiasm and keenness of all present came as a surprise to those who were not intimate with rifle clubmen and their sport, As regards the actual shooting, I) Bait, the Gisborne president, put on the only possible for the meeting, whilst all-buts were plentiful. The handicapping was specially arranged to keep the prize list as open as possible, the winners of any one mate!; being so penalised that they .were bound to give way to other aspirants in the next. The Poverty Bay championship for the best individual score from the rifle resolved itself into a tie between Riflemen Buntin and Breingan and the shoot-off was won by Buntin, whose success was a most popular one. The following is the cash prize list:
