THE TAKINGS. X.Z. COUNCIL MAY SUSTAIN LOSS. The Liking at the cricket match today amounted to £54. As £57 was taken on Friday and £247 15s on Satdrday, the total for the three days comes to £358 15s. It being a test match Mr Sims takes 50 per cent of the gross takings (.£179 7s 6d). In other matches he takes 60 per cent. Twenty per cent goes to the lessees of the ground (£7l 15s), and 30 per cent to the New Zealand Cricket Council (£lO7 12s 6d). Out of of the Council's quota all travelling expenses of the New Zealand players, advertising, etc., have to be paid, so it seems highly probable that the Council will sustain a loss over the match.

The above match was played at Takapau on Thursday last, and resulted in a win for Tokomaru by 6 wickets and 63 runs. The visitors were hospitably entertained: by the residents of Takapau and surrounding districts. The wicket was in splendid order. Mr W. Oates, sen., and Mr Stephenson kindly and: efficiently acted as umpires. There were a large number of ladies present, despite the boisterous state of the weather. . W. Oates, jun., won the toss and elected to bat. Rev. Tamnhori opened the howling

for Takapau and he proved: to be too good for the Tokomaru batsmen, the whole side going out for the small score of 68, J. Oates, Keane and Ootterill being the only ones to. make a showing. Rev. Tamahori gained the hat trick. ' Takapau in their first innings could do little against the howling of Coombe and W. Oates, and the side went out for 73. Tokomaru in their second venture did much better, putting on 135 for the loss of 4 wickets (declared closed). Takapau did' little better in their second essay, the whole side being dismissed for 78. Coomb© and W. Oates again doing the bowling for Tokomaru. For the losers, C. Nurse, E. T. Wilder', J. E. Image, and K. S. Williams batted well, while Rev. Tamahori and J. E.
